We have two cats who live mostly indoors but occasionally like to get some fresh air and direct sun. We recently built a glass-enclosed porch in the back of our house and wanted to move her litter box to the porch from a not-so-convenient spot in our main bathroom, but she needs 24-hour access to the litter box. I did a lot of research online and after purchasing a dog door from this company I already knew I liked their products and the item had good reviews here and elsewhere on the internet. Our window is 35 inches wide and this item fits in perfectly. As other reviewers have said, the sealant that comes with the kit is NOT enough to seal the top and bottom to prevent drafts. So I bought some stronger materials from our hardware store which fixed this problem. Installation took 30 minutes, most of which was spent on double insulation and adjusting the placement of the intrusion sensor. my 18 lb cat and ended up having to get a Chubby Kat size to accommodate her girth. The problem is filling it in a more prominent window. We have had no loss of light as a result and after 3 weeks of use we had no issues with the door not returning to the closed position after cats walked through. As it opens onto a glass-enclosed porch and we want them to be able to get in and out as they please, we leave the lock open on either side, although one of my children played around with it and moved around once. on the "outdoors only" setting and a cat was briefly stuck outside. However, we live in a hurricane prone area so being able to close it in high winds would be a huge plus for us. It wasn't difficult for our cats to learn how to use it. I spent several evenings pushing her through from two sides during her high activity and then luring her in with treats.
