I took a year to pick out a leather duffel I liked. Yeah, I’m that guy. I rather enjoyed the comparisons. I travel for work, often flying for a few days or up to a couple weeks. I loathe checking luggage and don’t feel like using my rollerboard suitcase when I’m gone for less than a week.This bag is plenty large while still fitting within regulation carry-on size. The great secret is the side claps, as you can undo them to open up the bag to a large size and then once packed use the clips to compress the contents down to carry-on size.The leather is proper cow hide not goat or other animal. It’s sturdy, just thick enough and a little stiff, which is a good thing. It reminds me of the type of leather used for saddles. Because of the stiffness it’s not a bag to live out of; you’ll probably want to unpack at arrival for easy access to your stuff. The duffel arrived in a large protective burlap bag with a drawstring. I folded it up and use it for dirty laundry storage in the duffel.The clasps are solid, the zippers are solid, the stitching is perfect and holding well, the leather thick & high quality. The brass feet on the bottom had little protective foam covers I had to carefully remove but that’s why they were there. The leather shoulder pad on the strap could maybe do with a bit more padding, but I only really notice after long walks through airports. I have a backpack for my computer and other gear, so I only use the interior padded pocket to hold that burlap sack. There’s a board sewn inside the base to hold the shape and that works nicely.I’ve had this leather duffel for several months and at least a dozen trips and am quite happy with it.
