I like that this drawer has a hinged door. The lid helps keep odors inside (rather than filling 3 spaces) and the swinging door helps keep debris in the box. My cats have a habit of throwing litter around when they scratch, but the lid/door gets rid of most of that. My floors are definitely cleaner. While some smells are still noticeable, they aren't what they used to be when the tray is open. Be careful when you lift the lid to scoop, it can be strong (as most of the smells stay inside). The upstairs rug is ideal for a cat to sleep in or look out the window. My cats liked the side flip toy so much they no longer exist. The construction is solid and fairly easy to assemble, but remember this is not a stool (do not let children sit on it). The only thing I didn't really love was the side scratch board: they don't give you enough of it to pull up the entire length - it only fills about half of it. Otherwise good value for money
