Review on πŸ’¦ Platypus Big Zip Water Reservoir for Hydration Backpacks, 2-Liter: EVO with Fast Flow Valve, Clear | Ultimate Hydration Solution by Michael Wiley

Attention, the hose can fall down!

I was very excited to receive this bladder to replace my old Camel bladder which finally gave up the ghost after 10+ years of use. Fueled up, provisions and electrolytes packed and off we went for the 25-mile solo training run I had planned in the desert. About halfway through the run, I suddenly felt a stream of water running down my back. I stopped, ripped off my backpack and found the hose had come loose from the fitting at the bottom of the tank. I lost almost all the water in my backpack. I was at least 10 miles from the nearest water source. Totally screwed up. Pulled out maps and tried to find an alternative route by road or water. Happy to be alive again. If you buy this you can either enclose all the hose connections or buy another bottle. I ended up returning it and buying the regular valve version instead of the fast flow version. The tube appears to be made of a different material, while the hose remains attached to barb connectors. The tubing on this bladder is made out of a teflon-like polymer, probably FEP or something. Which because it's very inert is great for minimizing bacterial growth but doesn't want to stay on barbs because it has a very low coefficient of friction. This should be reworked. One star for comfort because the extreme dehydration I experienced was very uncomfortable. One star overall because I could die. I have over 25 years of trail running and engineering experience. Always have trusted gear with you before you set off, especially if you're trekking alone, and always have a backup plan in case something goes wrong, such as: B. Maps, headlamp, first aid kit, jacket, matches and water filter.

Pros
  • High marks for hold and durability from testers
Cons
  • Slightly torn
