Big disappointment good for outdoor recreation

The water didn't flow well. I've had May Camel Back Hydrators and other non-brand hydration packs and know how they work. I happily bought it and used it on my W Trek Patagonia Trek. I filled it with water and checked it at home, it seems to be working fine. When I got to the beginning of W Trek and started using it, I kind of had all sorts of problems. First problem, it was very difficult to drain the water. I've tried connecting and reconnecting at each connection point. I've never had such a

If you hate the taste of plastic

I was initially skeptical about buying a Bladder which I thought was a glorified zip bag and that was after I climbed the mountain. apart from the well-known plastic taste in the mouth. It was my fault I was looking for something cheap so I wanted to throw this bubble down the side of the mountain. (This was after washing several times with soap, denture tabs, etc.). After reading reviews that it didn't taste like plastic right out of the box, I decided to bite the bullet and buy it, and I'm…

Great water backpack for hiking.

Item arrived properly packaged and on time. Haven't ridden it yet but did some tests at home. I filled it first to check for leaks and it was good. I then filled it up and put it in my backpack (Badlands CR2200) and lay on top of it to make sure the backpack would hold up to the pressure. After putting my weight on it and giving it more weight than would be expected on a hike, I checked it for leaks and was still fine. Overall I'm impressed. Seems to be quite well built and has a lot of nice…

Attention, the hose can fall down!

I was very excited to receive this bladder to replace my old Camel bladder which finally gave up the ghost after 10+ years of use. Fueled up, provisions and electrolytes packed and off we went for the 25-mile solo training run I had planned in the desert. About halfway through the run, I suddenly felt a stream of water running down my back. I stopped, ripped off my backpack and found the hose had come loose from the fitting at the bottom of the tank. I lost almost all the water in my backpack…

Pros
  • High marks for hold and durability from testers
Cons
  • Slightly torn

The only thing missing is a hook for the tip.

I have had many bladder systems over the past few decades. I switched to this Platypus style as my main style a few years ago. You can fail. The plastic of all parts, but especially the cylinder itself, withstands many scratches, bumps, splashes, falls. It doesn't really give the water an odd taste. The top opening is great, especially if you're in a situation where you're trying to fill from a shallow creek or something and the slider on top closes it HARD. I've never had a closed open one…

Easier to empty and clean than Camelbak - big benefit for me

I have used Camelbak for many years. But the Camelbak has a nasty design flaw: the bushing (yellow lever) catches and is very easy to remove. I've had to replace it 3 times over the life of my Camelbak. After losing the third, I decided it was time to give up Camelbak and give Platypus a try, and damn it, I was glad I did. Here's why: ▶ Case is securely attached The Camelback's case is easy to detach and lose. On the other hand, the tube is attached to the platypus very securely and will not…

Best of the best - I've used them all and they are PERFECT!

Playtypus Big Zip LP Tank, 3 liters is about as perfect as a hydration system can get - and yes I've used them all. What sets it apart as a premium hydration bladder: - Durable drinking tube and bite valve: The tube is high quality and the bite valve seals perfectly until you bite into it to drink. No dripping, it just works.- Shut-off valve on bite valve: If you don't drink for a while, the bite valve also rotates to shut off the flow completely. So if for whatever reason you want to stuff a…
