This Cybex Secure KVM is just a rebranded version from Avocent/Emerson. These are some of the best KVM switches out there. All of these devices are reliable and very well made, with the consistent seal of quality. And this device is compatible with almost every version of computer operating systems. However, each model differs slightly in important respects. Depending on your needs, a quirk of one of these could be significantly better for your needs. This is designed to work with DVI-I connections. You can easily connect 4 devices to one DVI-I monitor input. There's also standard 3.5mm headphone jacks, although there's no separate microphone jack. There are buttons and stickers on the front to identify them. This makes it easy to see which system is connected to which port. But peripheral ports are not "standard". There is a USB-B connector for keyboard and mouse. Unlike other models, there is no additional USB-B port for connecting peripherals. While this connection is somewhat standard in peripherals, it's far from standard in keyboards and mice, which typically connect to your computer's USB-A socket via USB-A male connectors. Please note that none of the required cables are included with this product. The manuals are available for download from the company's website. And there are some advanced features that you'll need documentation for. But for your basic local setup, it's pretty easy. It should be noted that the software specifications for this device differ significantly from some other models. This unit includes an additional RCU port for the console. This allows you to configure the control functions through the RJ45 connector. In addition to the standard USB keyboard and mouse ports, there are also legacy PS2 ports for the same console ports. And of course the same DVI-I video connectors and 3.5mm audio jacks. This device has everything to meet the needs of most device users. However, HDMI is fast becoming the standard for PC video. There's an alternative model from Emerson that has two HDMI inputs and outputs, so you don't have to worry about using adapters for all those connections. CONCLUSION This is a high quality product. Once you have all the necessary peripheral cables, it's easy to get started. However, having spent a decent amount of time with it, I believe the HDMI version is the better option. Any of these will work fine, but the HDMI version will work with more devices in the future.
