Review on πŸ’½ Sonnet Technologies Tempo 6Gbps SATA PCIe 2.0 Drive Card for SSDs (TSATA6-SSD-E2) by Leon Yulharmanto

Revainrating 5 out of 5

The best upgrade for an aging MacPro

Thoughtful hardware design that allows you to add an extra module/platter for another SSD if your computer supports long cards. Plate and all screws included. As far as I can tell there are no compatibility issues with OSX 10.9 and 10.10. I've used one SSD as a boot drive and the other as a scratch for Photoshop in a 2010 MacPro and it works great. I have tested many SSDs from Crucial, Intel, Adata, Plextor and they all work fine. I've since sold a 2010 MacPro with this card, but plan on buying the latest 2012 version if my hackintosh doesn't work, and then I'll get this card back. I also tested it briefly with an Asus Sabertooth Z87 and it also worked well with a very short boot timeout, faster than most SATA cards I've ever used. However, the speed is a bit slower than the onboard Intel SATA controller: I got 460MB/s on the MacPro and Asus board, while the same SSDs read 520MB/s on the Asus board.

Pros
  • even an old one understands
Cons
  • Not everything fits
