Review on RYMEK Typewriter Style Mechanical Keyboard: Wired & Wireless, Tablet Stand, Bluetooth (Black) by Michael Welborn

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Solid knowledge base, nice touch, attractive looks, a few minor inconveniences and one small issue

First my biggest complaint. I'm an "almost blind typist" trained in IBM style keyboards for over 30 years. I'm used to the increased spacing on the F and J keys so I know my hands are properly aligned on the home row. Even though this keyboard has markings on these keys (and they're backlit), my index fingers don't feel anything. As a result, I sometimes type what reads like phonetic Russian when my fingers touch keys that they "think" are correct but aren't. Otherwise, I double-press quite often. I checked and the keymap is a bit tighter than my old 105k keymap. There's only a few tents per inch between the A button and L button, but it's enough that when I'm in the flow, I scrape the button right next to the button I was trying to hit. It gets better as I get used to the new kb but it was annoying until I found out what was causing it. A small problem is that the keys I use in the 105-key layout are missing on this typewriter layout. . What I miss the most in my case is the print screen to use the screen capture features. A good keyboard macro program will solve this problem in most cases, but if you're used to a larger layout and are using keyboard shortcuts with assigned keys, you should be ready to assign your function keys to replace the missing keys in that layout. that KB is nice to use, especially once I get used to it. The key change feel is great, with really good tactile feedback so I don't skip a letter or press a key and get a lot of the same letters. KB is solidly built and just plain fun to watch on my desktop. Takes me back to high school and my private typing class on vintage Royal handheld typewriters. In fact, if Knowkey would send me replacement F and J keycaps with raised finger probes, that would be a 5 star product. How would I rate it.

Pros
  • Classic retro design, wireless Bluetooth and USB cable connection Supported: suitable for all use cases
Cons
  • Good for most of the time, but...
