The "trick " in locking

As many say, ear clips are a challenge. I actually started installing, expecting the clips to be difficult since my ceiling is 3/4 thick. After learning this trick, I was actually able to create clips by hand without tools. I cut my holes 4 3/8, no more. Remove the clips and remove the sealing tape from the clips. Insert the lenses and install the clips one at a time from the inside of the lens. Try a few before you put the jar on the ceiling, it's not difficult. In order for the clip to work properly, it must slide all the way down. If the glass touches the hole on the side where the clip is, the clip will not slide down and you will have trouble rotating the clip in place. Pull the glass out of the hole on the side you are working on, then push out the clip and it will come out easily. With a screwdriver you can move it the last 1/8 to the locked position. After installation I use AC aluminum tape over the clamps to seal the clamp area of the glass. FYI, these cans are advertised as "sealed". Upon closer inspection, the wires lead through a metal passageway to the electrical junction box. Room air easily enters the attic. I'm going to use a can of insulating foam to seal this passage. Cans also advertise "thermally protected". There is NO thermal protection in the wiring of these banks.
