As someone who has foot problems (2 previous foot surgeries for heel spurs and plantar fasciitis) I love New Balance shoes and they are great but they seem very tight in the toes. They put a lot of pressure on my big toes in particular, which wasn't comfortable at all. It took a few times to put them on before they weren't so tight anymore. They don't have as much cushioning in the arch and heels as I remember New Balance does. I don't know if it's because of this particular shoe or if New Balance has changed since my last purchase. I understand that all new shoes need a break-in period, but I personally believe that new athletic shoes have to be comfortable from day one or they won't fit you. The bad thing is you have to wear them to break them and then hope it gets better. I only wore them for a while and then switched to a different pair of shoes. I definitely wouldn't buy them again, and in fact I'll probably buy every shoe in the store from now on so I can try them on right away. Unfortunately, large widths are hard to find in stores. I also think that I will wear hiking shoes in the future. I think they tend to have more cushioning.
