Has worked fine with my government PIV card - about 1 year.

OR I have to say it works no worse than the reader I was given and is much more portable. It's very light and not that clunky. Most importantly, it connects to the Thunderbolt 3 port without being cluttered. Reads the map. I can log in. The crappy software means I have to unplug and plug it in again at times, but I'm pretty sure it's not the reader's fault. Update: It's not that reliable. About a year later I had to remove it as it became unusable. He traveled little and was not subjected to harsh conditions. Never got wet.
