Review on πŸ’ͺ Distribute Channels with the MINIMOD 2 MODULATOR: A Powerful Solution by Kevin Abner

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works like a champ! Very happy with my purchase.

UPDATE: I ran into some issues when balancing the MINIMOD-2 output with OTA channels for all 5 TVs installed in my RV. The main problem was that I was trying to install MIDIMOD-2 on the back of the RV next to my computer and the boosted OTA connection was on the front of the RV. Front-facing TVs receive OTA channels, not the MINIMOD 2 channel. TVs on the back receive the MINIMOD 2 channel but not OTA channels. The TV in the center of the van receives channels from both sources. APPARENTLY . it's not MINIMOD-2's fault. When I installed MINIMOD-2 up front on the same coax entry point as the OTA channel, I was able to get everything working properly. But one thing I didn't think of is that if I move the camper to a different campsite, the signal strength of the OTA stations will change, requiring the OTA channel to be rebalanced. Fortunately, my OTA antenna amplifier has adjustable GAIN and SLOPE controls, making it pretty easy to balance everything with the MINIMOD-2, which also has an adjustable GAIN function. I actually had to move the NUC computer forward to power the MINIMOD-2, which I don't want to do, but it doesn't matter much. like that . I'm still a happy camper! End of UPDATE. Although this VECOAX MINIMOD-2 just arrived today and I've only played with it for a few hours, I can safely say that I really like it. After unpacking I left it in the default (US) settings. Cable out), connected the coax cable to the TV in my RV, plugged in and plugged the power supply back in, then checked the TV for new cable channels. Could not find MINIMOD output. I haven't bothered to fix this as I'll be using it on the OTA channel anyway (so I can combine it with local TV channels for use in my RV which doesn't fit a cable while driving on the road, lol). But I'll try to take it off later. I am sure, that I can somehow get it to work on cable frequencies if I ever need it. Either way, it's probably a fading issue. I then accessed the MINIMOD-2 menu and configured it for ATSC modulation. using the default channel and frequency. I then searched the TV again for OTA channels and this time it found the MINIMOD 2 channel. It displayed the device's test video image perfectly. Then I connected the coaxial cable of the roof antenna with the amplifier to the device. s RF input and rescanning OTA channels on my TV. It found the device's default channel of 14.1, but failed to detect any OTA broadcast channels. I then went into the device menu and set the attenuation to 20 dB. I then scanned again and the TV found 5 of the 50 or so OTA channels I can get from a town about 50 miles away. Now that I know what the problem was with the OTA streaming, I'm sure I can fix it later and get most of those channels back. I have a HackRF One SDR that I can hook up later to measure the signal levels of everything to help with this issue if needed. Stereo audio output. I then connected the NUC's HDMI output to the MINIMOD-2. Presto - my computer screen appeared on the TV. minus about 20 pixels around the entire perimeter of the screen. This was the TV's fault, of course, and was easily remedied by quickly changing the TV's default overscan settings. My NUC is connected to the network. I use VLC on it to play videos from my Synology NAS servers that I take with me in my RV. I have selected some ripped DVD and Blu-ray movies to play. DVD-Video looked almost the same as the direct video output. However, the 35GB Blu-ray movies I played showed the same compression artifacts seen on cable and satellite TV (I don't subscribe to cable or satellite TV for this reason, preferring instead to buy Blu-ray shows and movies). I want to see). But these artifacts only appear at home and when watching movies on a VERY LARGE projection screen. I can live with that in my RV as it's no different than what cable or satellite TV does with video. But on a big home screen, I don't tolerate the video artifacts you see with cable and satellite quality video. Even digital OTA TV is MUCH better than cable. And I can't stand the terrible quality of internet video services. My first choice is to only buy movies and shows that I want to watch on Blu-ray (and sometimes DVD) and then rip them to my NAS servers so I can access them instantly and take them all with me on the go. My camper is on vacation 6-8 months a year. All in all I am very satisfied with this device. While I would like it to be as good as regular local digital broadcasters, I understand that this is not a live video file, rather the video is resampled a second time from the HDMI output. My tests were also performed in low latency mode. For the most part it looks good and I'm pretty happy with the quality (when watching it on those 5 sub high end TVs I have in my RV). I bought it to watch movies while moving on any TV. while all TVs stay in sync with each other (well, as accurate as digital TV can get). Prior to this purchase, my NUC could only play the TV it was connected to. BTW I also have an HDHomerun Advanced Tuner connected to my RV Ethernet network. Even if I can't balance all the OTA channels in a coax cable, it doesn't matter. I will be using my NUC and VLC to play movies and via a HDHomerun tuner, to which I connected an antenna directly, eliminating the need to bundle OTA streams with the MINIMOD-2 output. It's also desirable that the antenna is isolated as part 2 of this project is to add a MoCA network to my coax and I don't want any of that transmission leaving my RV. I may add more details as I continue this project. I started in my RV. Also curious about hooking up this MINIMOD-2 output to the campground CATV coax in case everyone at the campgrounds can watch my movies lol. I will set my channel name to RVHDTV. Keep an eye out at campgrounds across America for places to stay lol. I do not want, that everything is transmitted from my van. I can add more details as I continue this project I started in my van.
