I bought this for our open shelf that we are turning into a bar. But this item is only for kitchen cabinets. There is an extra space under the cabinet with a ledge up, which makes this wine glass holder stable. My shelf has shelves that are made out of a flat piece of wood. You must have extra space to install the equipment. However, the quality of the rubbed bronze looks very good. And I would be very happy if it comes to our open shelves. But you must have a base and it is certainly suitable to put under a closet. I say if you are in doubt about buying this for your closet, go for it.
