This saves the zipper on my coat.

The zipper on my Carhartt duck lined coat broke when the tab on the side of the zipper separated from the fabric meaning the zipper went up but then opened from the bottom. I have a hood for it and I really like the coat so I bought a new heavy duty zipper and it took me a day to open the coat, pull the lining back, sew in a new zipper and then put the lining back in place sewed. There is a flap to cover the zip with multiple Velcro straps to keep it in place. The bottom one was worn out so there was nothing to unload the zip...until I found this kit. I've been using General Tools products for years and they generally do what they're supposed to do and this little kit is no exception. I removed the velcro and added a button at the bottom so the bottom of the zipper wouldn't pinch when it snapped shut. It's a nice little kit, but it's not designed for very thick material and I had to cut the handle and put a piece inside so there was enough metal on the other side to bend for a tight clasp. It does the job and it was easier than losing part of my stomach to take the pressure off the zipper. It's not a very good quality tool, so when joining the parts, use something hard like a steel vise for the back and give a few taps rather than hitting hard. The anvil has 2 sides... one for the button and the other for the loop. I fully zippered the jacket, pulled the flap to where I wanted it, pinned it, and then punched a hole through both ends to make sure my zipper was where I wanted it when it was finished. listed. It was the right size for my coat and the latch was about 5/8 inch wide.
