Others have written long, detailed technical reviews of this camera, so my review is for amateur photographers considering an upgrade. Years ago photography was part of my job as a newspaper reporter and I used a Pentax SLR to capture sporting and other live events. Then I switched to another realm, the digital age came and I only needed a camera for personal use, so I switched to basic digital cameras that did all the work for you, no more guesswork with aperture, shutter speed and aperture. the settings. Then smartphones began to improve their pixel resolution, add video, and we no longer needed cameras. So why buy a Pentax K-70 DSLR? Because you can take truly AMAZING 24.24 megapixel ultra-high resolution photos that are more art than just "pictures". If you can afford that price, if you don't mind lugging around a £2 camera, and (again, if you're an amateur) if you're willing to spend some time reading the manual and a experiment a little, then you might be surprising yourself with your photographic talent. My only disappointment is that with an 18-55mm lens you have very limited zoom options - only 3x optical zoom. What I loved about my old Pentax with an extra-long telephoto lens was its awesome ability to catch my eyes in the middle of a pass from a distant touchdown or a slip at second base. Besides, this Pentax is a wonderful thing. Technology that allows you to use your own aperture and shutter speed settings if you wish, or choose from 19 different presets such as portrait, landscape, sunset, night scene, etc. You can also use the camera with auto focus and auto exposure. Speaking of autofocus, this can take some learning as the algorithm doesn't always focus on the part of the image you want to focus on. With practice, you can persuade him. Oh, and it also has its own pop-up flash, which is nice. This summer I'm photographing a friend's wedding at sunset in a beautiful national park in the Pacific Northwest overlooking the ocean and I exercise a lot so I don't have to stop and think about what settings I need to get the perfect shot worthy of being shot of getting blown up like a piece of art on the wall. This camera can.
