So this is a fast charger, the tips work great BUT if any metal particles or flakes get on the tip of the cable where the magnet is and that will cause it will not be smooth seal, it will overheat and damage the magnetic part of the cable. I've had 2 out of 3 that had this problem just picking up the specs of the metal as it's a magnet. My phone was not damaged but I felt the cord was very hot and unplugged it both times. How I usually use the phone when connected to my car. If it's a night charger and you haven't used it, it could pose a security issue. I personally don't think it's a manufacturing defect or anything, more like a magnetic cord tip sissy that doesn't always leave a small piece at the end.
