I am a semi-serious shooter but was looking for an easier P&S to carry in a pocket. I didn't care about the full manual control and wanted better photos than my cell phone. Half short review. I am known for writing my thesis in front of the camera. This camera is an older model. If you want the latest model, you need the SX610 Canon PowerShot SX610 HS (Red) model. The obvious difference I see between this model and the SX610 is that the SX610 is 20MP. This older model could take better photos with a 16-megapixel camera. A higher MR is a marketing ploy camera manufacturers use for uninformed camera buyers. More MP does NOT mean better photos. Made in Japan! Needless to say, cameras made in Japan have never let me down. Takes great pictures, bright, sharp and realistic, but if you're a pixel watcher you won't be happy with the quality of the photos (you know who you are!). For the rest of us, the photos are fine. Fast focus, fast next shot. Excellent battery life, over 300 photos on a single charge. The battery is charged outside the camera in a separate charger. It's smaller than I thought it would be, but it has a rubber grip on the right front to make it easier to hold. The red version is glossy, the black camera is matte and feels better in the hand, but I'm not sure about the white camera. The flash pops up manually, you press the button on the side of the camera. . The LCD screen lets you know when a flash is needed. I like the manual controls more, but you might not like it. You can zoom during the video, but unless you use a tripod for the full 18x zoom, your photo or video may be blurry or shaky. It's the same with most other cameras. There is no CD, you need to download the Canon Image software from their website. I can't get it to work with Windows 8.1 or Windows 10, but it doesn't matter to me since I use Picasa and Photoshop Elements. You need to buy an SDHC card, I recommend that. Kingston Digital 16GB SDHC/SDXC Class 10 UHS-1 30MB/s Flash Memory Card (SD10V/16GB) I always recommend a case. This is an original Olympus case with a magnetic flap, but it's unmarked so it doesn't conflict with Canon :) And it fits this camera like a glove. The description says velcro, but it's magnetic.
