Great camera for beginners or those who want better photos than most cell phones offer

I am a semi-serious shooter but was looking for an easier P&S to carry in a pocket. I didn't care about the full manual control and wanted better photos than my cell phone. Half short review. I am known for writing my thesis in front of the camera. This camera is an older model. If you want the latest model, you need the SX610 Canon PowerShot SX610 HS (Red) model. Great for everyday point and shoot purposes

EDIT 5/17/16: Photos taken with this camera, even at low magnification, come out too soft and don't look very sharp. I just don't like photos or videos. I'm going to return it and get something more expensive with better features, including manual focus. I originally bought this camera to use as a DVR for my Youtube channel as I have been using a Canon SX20IS as a DVR for many years.
