EDIT 5/17/16: Photos taken with this camera, even at low magnification, come out too soft and don't look very sharp. I just don't like photos or videos. I'm going to return it and get something more expensive with better features, including manual focus. I originally bought this camera to use as a DVR for my Youtube channel as I have been using a Canon SX20IS as a DVR for many years. But I needed a smaller camera as the larger, heavier SX20 wobbled too much on my dash mount and I also wanted to upgrade to 1080p. Unfortunately, this camera turned out to be completely unsuitable as a DVR for a number of reasons. However, I cannot fault the product as such. The camera is decent for what it is and what it's intended for. It just wasn't the right product for the unusual use I had planned for it. But I will explain. There was no way to turn off the display as the DVR is supposed to be recording the whole time a person is driving. If it had a feature to turn off while recording long videos or on standby between shots, it would save battery life. However, the included battery lasted for about an hour and a half of continuous video recording. Not bad! I would really like to use AA batteries instead of a proprietary battery. Another hurdle for a proper dash cam was the fact that the autofocus lock doesn't stay on after you press the button to stop recording, and it hurts to re-enable the autofocus lock. Even for the average user, this quirk can be a bit annoying. At least manual focus remained active on the SX20 between shots and even when switching between playback and capture modes. But not in this device. The CMOS sensor, as opposed to the SX20's CCD sensor, made it unsuitable for DVRs, even with image stabilization on, as this camera vibrated too much. However, this should not be a problem for anyone as no one will be using this as a dash cam. But for general shooting, the image stabilization feature is quite reliable and works very well. I decided to leave this camera for general use rather than a DVR. Rexing V1 has become my new DVR. As with most Canon cameras, saturation and color rendition are very vibrant and truly spectacular on this camera. Big plus for my book! This camera also does an excellent job with the contrast. On the other hand, Full HD 1080P video wasn't as sharp as I expected. Therefore, the whole video scene feels a bit boring for 1080P. The video trimming function is very cumbersome because there is no dial on this camera, but four-way buttons. I like the light weight and small size of this camera.
