A good tablet with a few annoying glitches

I've had this tablet for almost a month so I decided to write a review. Got this tablet here at Revain and bought I-Blason goes with it. This case is a must have for your tablet! It fits perfectly and offers a lot of protection. You must have a tablet case. I also bought a 32GB SD card for extra storage. I will move and store a lot of music, photos and videos on my tablet. The speakers are really good and sound great. I get about 5 hours on a charge and it charges quickly in about 3 hours. I never let it go below 30%. The camera works well, the images are sharp and well focused. The microphone is sensitive and the voice recognition works flawlessly. WIFI is sensitive and connects very well to my wifi router. Apps load and work fast. The display is sharp and clear for most applications. A higher resolution would be nice, but is sufficient for most applications. Overall I really like this tablet and I think it's worth the price. I haven't had any of the issues that others have reported regarding freezing, booting, screen scratches, and speaker or battery issues. I think it's a good choice over the Kindle, if only for the rear camera and front webcam. However, there are a few glitches I've encountered that detract from the perfect experience. Some of these may be due to me using my SD card for extra storage and others are probably just Android bugs. I don't like the fact that the tablet turns on when you plug it into the charger. Then you have to turn it off to make it charge faster. The Asus Weather/Time widget no longer connects to Accuweather and is no longer updated. Worked a few days. Couldn't get it to work again. A google search shows that others have had this problem as well. I would like to be able to copy files (music, photos, videos) from my desktop PC (Windows XP) to my tablet. I can copy music (MP3) and photos (JPG), but Windows won't let me copy videos (MP4) to my tablet. Writes that the specified file type is not supported by the device. For some reason I can copy WMV video files but WMV files won't play on Android tablet. I need to work around this by changing the file type extension of my MP4 files to WMV and then copying them. The Android tablet doesn't seem to care about the file extension and plays it fine as soon as I get it! I worked with Asus support on this issue but they were unable to provide a solution. I was hoping that they would update the USB drivers for their tablet but that didn't happen. They only have drivers for their "Transformer" tablet. Possibly updated Android USB drivers would allow Windows to recognize the device properly. When I connect my tablet to my computer via USB, the Windows file manager shows duplicate entries for folders on the tablet's SD card. Also, every time I connect it to my PC without copying files or doing anything, suddenly all the files in my folders on the SD card are duplicated! The tablet file manager doesn't show their duplicates, only the Asus players/viewers. The only way to remove duplicate files is to create (using the tablet's file manager) a new folder with a different name, cut and paste all the files into the new folder, and then delete the old folder. This duplicate files issue also occurs when an update is applied to any of the applications. On a Google search for these issues, I found that others have experienced these issues on other devices, including smartphones. It seems that there are some glitches in the Android operating system. However, no one has reported a problem copying Windows files. I have no experience with other brands of tablets so I don't know how they compare. But despite the glitches, I still find this tablet very useful and worth the price. My experience with Asus support was mediocre and I wouldn't call it great.

Pros
  • There's something to it
Cons
  • Almost everything is there
