The product image was a bit misleading. Our 9 year old with autism is very technical and LOVES building. We thought it would be a good birthday gift. He opened it, turned it around a bit, and then quickly lost interest. They are quite limited in what can be built. Especially for those who are used to Lego. I've seen that they can be useful for learning and building geometric shapes, but there are quicker and easier ways to do it. No, I wouldn't recommend buying them as gifts unless the child is specifically asking for them as a first set or to add to a set they already have. Extreme caution is advised when small children are around. Small parts that look like bearings can be very dangerous for babies.
