Review on High-Quality Teac TN-300SE-WA Analog Belt Drive Turntable In Walnut Finish by Todd Foster

Revainrating 3 out of 5

I Really Wanted To Like this Unit which has an Initial Disappointment with CD Playback !

I only just received this Teac Multi-Player / CD Recorder yesterday. It came very well and securely packaged. Takimg it from the Box, it was apparent of the nice "feel of quality/ sturdiness" to the Teac product. Plugged it in and I attached it to my Denon DRA -800H Receiver to enhance the stereo sound. Played LPs first. Night and Day compared to the Cheapo Boytone Multi-Player All-In-One. Better TT and better sounding cartridge. I was so pleased to have purchased this for my Basement sound system which is used as a Home Office and Quasi-sound studio where I enjoy my Renewed Hobby of playing my Drum Set. Then I played a Commercial CD (Sting) and heard some distortion. Cleaned the CD , played it again, and still heard distortion. I played the same CD in the cheap Boytone - no Distortion. AAAAAHHHHH. Then Played and Paused a CD burned for me by a friend, which I have played on the Boytone and in my Car (Steely Dan) - beautiful sound from both sound delivery systems - especially with the Boytone hooked up to the Denon. It initially played on the Teac, but then skipped in few places and skipped worse after pausing it. Again. AAAAAHHHH. I will give it a second chance or even a third chance, but I cleaned the CDs thoroughly and by the way, never cleaned them to play on the other sources (car and the Boytone). I have not tested it's capabilities to record CDs, from various advertised sources. I'm disappointed as I was so much wanting to enjoy this unit. And I have owned other Teac equipment - granted years ago - still have a 40 year old Teac Radio Tuner and had TEAC double Cassette player recorder also from 35 years ago - which bit the dust after years of playing. I don't think it was fluke , as sometimes electronics can be hit and miss with such things. And I checked and reviewed this pretty thoroughly with no such reports. Maybe I will try to call TEAC , if it's easy enough to do with a possible solution. If that's a big hassle - it goes right Back

Pros
  • Love. Wish it had an auto return but for the cost of this great turntable I can return the arm by hand.
Cons
  • Expensive price point

Good quality for a baby boomer. Would like to add remote speakers (wireless) but not sure how...looking into it.
