My 6.5 year old really enjoyed using these knives to help prepare dinner. After learning how to hold it, she chopped the celery, crushed the garlic cloves to remove the skin, and then diced the garlic. My recent 4 year old didn't have the coordination to hold even the smallest knife. They were too big for her hands. She will wash the vegetables while her older sister will cut them up for now. I think a 4.5 to 5 year old could use them with patience and help.
