Review on Godinger 4811 Triangular Crystal Decanter by Bim Cook

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Great decanter at a great price!

When I first took this decanter out of the box I was a little disappointed as it wasn't as shiny as I expected. In fact, it was like ordinary glass. However, when I took the time to wash it off, the shine on this piece really started to show. Don't get me wrong, it's not as pretty as a crystal item that costs hundreds of dollars, but overall I'm very impressed with the quality of this $20 decanter. I would recommend dousing it in vinegar and leaving it there for at least 24 hours to remove any excess lead that may coat the inside (made in China so be careful!). There are only two small reasons I don't give this product five stars. First, the cork makes a pretty decent seal around the hole, but it's not 100% airtight. No big deal, because you shouldn't keep anything in the carafe for a long period of time. At least the stopper is glass and not plastic, which is a big plus! There was also a relatively large bubble in the glass on one of the flat sides of the carafe. I thought about swapping out the carafe I received for a new one because of the blister, but figured it wasn't worth the hassle for a $20 product. Anyway, it's not very noticeable unless you look closely. Overall I am very happy with this purchase! Would buy again anytime.
