Review on ☕ Premium Ultra-Fine Mesh Cold Brew Coffee Filter: Perfect for 2-Quart Mason Jars by Sade Tucker

Critical design flaw

I have been making cold drinks in glasses with loose, coarse grinding and multi-stage filtration for many years. I bought this product to make the process easier and less wasteful. This works (sort of), but there's a key design flaw that makes it impossible to make a true cold brew concentrate. Pros: The holes in the filter are VERY small and hold the soil really well. The filter fits perfectly in a wide-necked jug. It's very easy to clean. Cons: The filter tapers towards the bottom, severely limiting the amount of ground coffee you can add. The maximum I could put in at one time is 140 grams; and when I fill it all the way there is little to no room for expansion or interaction between the coffee and the water. In addition, to pour the whole thickness, I need to add about 1700 ml of water (the ratio of water and coffee is about 12:1). In my experience, the optimal ratio is 7:1, which is not possible with this setup. The result is a weak, cold drink that is further diluted when milk or other brighteners are added. It tastes good and some people might want a weak/watery cold drink. But it's not for me. I ordered another non-cone filter, Altura Tube+. When it arrives I will write a review to compare.
