Review on πŸ”Š August MB300 Mini Wooden MP3 Stereo System: FM Clock Radio, Card Reader, USB Port, AUX Jack, Dual 3W Hi-Fi Speakers, Rechargeable Battery - Dark Wood by Johnny Murphy

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Absolutely delightful

I was amazed at the sound quality. I need reading glasses to ride, but that's my problem. This is a present for a friend. I immediately ordered two more for myself. I have not tested battery life. I don't trust the battery life of most devices, so I was happy to see that it comes with its own AC power supply and doesn't use a USB port. This means that the USB port is always available for use with an MP3 memory card. Update: Having owned this radio for about a week now, I can report on a few features: 1. Radio channels can be stored in a programmed numerical location, but it's not intuitive how to change stations while listening. To change the programmed preset 1 to 2 you must be listening to the radio and press & <Set> and before the timeout expires press & <Vol Up>.2. The buttons are very difficult to press. Solution found! The knob rotates from the outside. Press the end of the button closest to the LCD screen and you'll be amazed at how much easier the button is to activate.3. The battery lasted over 5 hours at medium volume.4. If you pause briefly while listening to MP3, playback will resume from where you left off. If you pause longer (maybe 15 minutes or more), the MP3 file will start from the beginning of the file you are listening to. When you insert a new USB stick, it will jump to the beginning of the file number you heard on the first USB stick. Example: If you are listening to the 25th file on flash drive one, the 25th file on flash drive two will be the first file played by this unit when you switch discs. In other words, it doesn't really recognize different flash drives.5. There is no way to move forward or backward within a specific file.6. The radio reception is quite good. I have a Sangean PR-D7 which is known for its good reception and this radio does a very similar job.7. The sound quality is quite decent for this size. Compared to the Sangean PR-D7 ($50) and the Grace Digital Mondo+ ($150), this little model sounds better. There is no headphone/earphone jack, but I have many other devices that allow me to hear this way. I will say that I plan to void my warranty and install my own jack like one of the other customers described in the questions.9. I'm not sure if some people are claiming that the radio has stopped working, but a possible explanation could be the power switch on the back of the radio. When turned off, the radio will appear as if it is still on, but will not respond to radio or remote button presses. The switch may be defective or not fully switched to the on position. This is an old style slide switch.10. Why waste so much time on reviews: To be honest I was curious about the inconsistency of Radio Revain's product of choice and 34% of the reviewers gave it 1 star or 2 stars. I believe the ranking doesn't tell the whole story. I think that's an example of "If you like something, you tell someone about it. If you don't like something, you tell a lot of people." A lot of people who buy this item must be happy with it and just don't rate it at all. For the price and the range on the market, I really like this radio. If I was asking for a function would it move forward and backward in a specific file That's all SECOND update I recently thought my radio/player had turned into a brick Turns on after a minute or half an hour The display also came on briefly at irregular times, always with an annoying beeping sound like I was pressing a button.I couldn't play the whole mp3 file.Had it not been for my initial satisfaction with this unit it would have been thrown away and you would see a change in my rating for this product Well here is what was found: This device is very prone to failure when connected to a charger n will. Sometimes no problem. In other cases, if you turn the light on or off on the same circuit as the charger, the MP3 file will stop playing. In my situation, I didn't even turn anything on or off. But in the end it turned out that two fluorescent lights that were in the same place (probably the same circuit) stopped working. They caused changes in the circuit and caused the problem. All this time the device worked normally on the battery. The battery was almost empty after 5 or 6 hours of continuous use, so I had to recharge it. After I disconnected the defective lights from the power supply, the device worked without any problems, even during the charging process.

Pros
  • Clock radio
Cons
  • Poor manual
