Where is it made?!?: Water Pumps

Okay, I'll be honest. As a general rule, I am NOT totally opposed to minting Chinese made items as scrap. But I will confess when I ordered this pump for my '94 Bronco to replace my original 19 year old water pump, I was shocked when I opened up my new motor pump and saw a sticker on it that said "Made in China" was standing. Also in comparison to my original 94-marked pump, I noticed that the original quality is not there. This pump is lighter and more like a tin can compared to the original pump. Sure, it works as a replacement, and it works on a nearly twenty-year-old truck with 178,000 miles, but I'm starting to think that if this truck lives long enough, that pump won't last nearly as long as the replaced. To be honest I think I could have kept the original as I believe it was just a paper liner that failed in the section. Just in case. Buyer's tip: A gasket is supplied, but the original screws must be reused. I recommend having some new spare bolts, as there's a good chance you'll break one or two (assuming they've been on the truck long enough). If possible, soak them in PB for a few days before attempting to remove them. If they break, prepare to remove the harmonic balancer, crankshaft pulley, and timing case cover to get them out. In general, a few extra screws isn't such a big deal, but it would still be nice to not have them. I had to do all of the above and heat and remove the jammed bolts multiple times with a propane torch. Turned several hours of work into a job that took a few days between finding parts and extra tools. Summary: For the $70.00 price range I figured I couldn't go wrong. Ford Direct wants another 55.00 for a pump with the same part number. I don't know if it's made in China now or something else but if I had known beforehand I would have gone for the pump I originally planned to pre-purchase for 35.00 less.
