Review on πŸ”‡ Nobsound USB Isolator Module: Advanced Audio Noise Eliminator and Industrial Protection Solution by Tanya Smith

Excellent functionality for the price

I would have liked a closed dust cover, but at least it is closed (unlike other inexpensive options that are only raw printed). While in some situations I prefer not to need a cable, sometimes it's great as it gets rid of crowded USB hubs. I needed this because a synth would add a lot of distortion/noise when using its USB port for MIDI in/out. . It's standalone so I wasn't sure why it wasn't turning off USB power like the best DACs do, but it worked great. Now the same silence as when turning off the USB! I was hoping to use this on my 32 lane interface but can't seem to try it as it limits the bandwidth to USB 1.1, 12Mbps. But I don't think my interface needs it, it's probably already disconnected from USB power internally. I just take a bigger one and use it on any USB MIDI controller and also try it out on the RME Babyface, as it is also very noisy in some configurations. (Which I've usually solved by running the USB cables to other hubs/ports and using external power, but there was still noise at times!) I don't see a reason to spend more than $50 that others want . I may not know everything he does, but in my opinion the most important thing is to turn off the power lines. From what I understand, stripping the cable and cutting the correct wires will do the same thing? So I don't really understand what the ADuM chip is doing. (provided it allows for more than external power output) Also, this again has an external input if you need it, along with a 5-6 inch cable to give it some clearance from your potentially crowded USB port/hub - area to give. I'll probably get at least 2-3 more just to have on hand! Why bother rerouting cables just in hopes of fixing signal glitches for interfaces with a small number of channels or MIDI devices! I also had a computer keyboard that was making an insane amount of noise - for that of course I'd have to add an external power supply, it's quite fun to do all this just for the keyboard but at least it gives you the option at an affordable price.

Pros
  • High marks for grip and durability from testers
Cons
  • Not as thick as other picks
