It's hard to imagine that they are simply held to the truck by friction. Despite 21 years of dirt and rust, I sprayed them with some silicone grease and installed them straight away. First I inserted the far end and then pryed open the front and side pieces with a pry bar and screwdriver. When I cocked it back, I couldn't get to the back or the other side with a screwdriver. They are tight, do not twist or stretch. then you know you did it right.
