Review on 🌬️ DAIKIN 12,000 BTU 17 SEER Wall-Mounted Ductless Mini-Split Inverter Air Conditioner Heat Pump System: Complete Installation Kit & Wall Bracket Included (230V) by Leslie Smith

Revainrating 2 out of 5

The installation manual is missing many steps and reads like a translation

Installation kit includes connection cables between outdoor and indoor unit. It's a 16 AWG size, which violates NEC as it must be able to handle the rating of the main fuse. In this device 12KBTU, so 14AWG, with 15A fuses. The indoor unit installation instructions do not include the steps for connecting the control cable, which requires a strain relief connector. No problem, I can buy this, but it doesn't come with instructions on how to remove the entire plastic cover (it doesn't say it's necessary) so you can access the 1/2" knockout hole and install the locking nut. The wiring of the outdoor unit has problems with not enough space for the wiring under the terminal block cover. I bought the correct 14AWG control wire from Revain and the power wires are difficult to reattach the fairing. As per another post (1 star) If you don't have an authorized dealer at the factory to install it then you have no warranty. The main issue with the installation instructions is the torque level for the 1/4" and 3/8" flare nuts. It's too high and I experienced squeezing out of the bell. I had to cut off one end and flare it back up. Daikin's instructions were 13.3 ft-lb for 1/4" and 31.0 ft-lb for 3/8" it will never trip a torque wrench. So I checked what the SAE has and for 1/4" 9 ft.lbs. (max 10) and for 3/8" 20 ft.lbs (max 25). Daikin may have special hard copper that is still soft drawn but the kit supplied is soft and unable to handle the torque according to their instructions and also I had to extend the 15ft line an additional 8ft and mine purchased cooling boiler was also squeezed out (and it was designed for R410a). The installation guide and user manual looks like it was written in another language and translated by a non-engineer and English wasn't their first language. My outdoor unit had some damage in transit as it was sent by FedEx and seemed to have been abandoned. The damage at the fins was minimal but I should still straighten the cover which was fitted at the connection end of the indoor unit, the airfoil faucet hinge pin was broken at one end, I sealed it with epoxy. It works now. It cooled the room down in a couple of hours, and I'm happy with how quiet it operates, but the Quarrel's computer is a little louder than the neighboring Mitsubishi (17KBTU). I expect more than 20 years of my life from this. I didn't see any conformal coating on any of the PCB nodes. I don't live where things like geckos crawl in (that's a big problem in tropical regions). This was my third split session this summer. And he had the worst instructions. It is clear that they are intended to be installed by factory-trained technicians. From my point of view I started my life as an HVAC technician (2 years apprenticeship) and also worked as an electrician and then came back and did my BSEE degree. I have been designing avionics for 29 years and have ensured repair manuals are complete and helpful. I downloaded a repair manual for this Daikin (one for indoor and one for outdoor units), disassembly instructions are also missing. With all that plastic, it's important not to damage it as a trick was required to release the latch. On the right side of the indoor unit, under the main hinged lid, is a small compartment with a cover, I have no idea which one was for what.
