Based on reviews saying they are small I ordered my son XXL which means about 14 huskies. It's really hard for my son to find pants because he's 7 years old, 112 pounds and 52 inches tall. So he's very stocky, with big feet and hands, but not as tall as most kids who wear 14/16. He has buttocks at the back and a deep arch that pushes his stomach forward, so his build isn't as straight and tight as it seems made for boys' pants. The elastic waistband works great. Unfortunately, every time the size goes up, a few inches of length is added to boys' clothing as well. Gathered jogger-style pant legs help a lot. He needed these boy scout pants and I was very happy to finally find the blue cargo pants that fit him. He then asked me where the belt loops were as he has to wear a belt to attach things. That's why I rated it 4 stars instead of 5 - no belt loops. So I'm still looking for Boy Scout pants to fit him. They're made of thick, durable material and will soften with washing (a bit stiff at first) but he'll wear them, which says a lot since he usually only wears sweatpants (as they have an elastic waistband which suits him best). He'll probably only wear them until I find the same belt-loop pants for the Cub Scouts.
