Review on πŸ’» Intel Core i7-8700 Desktop Processor: 6 Core, Up to 4.6 GHz, LGA 1151 300 Series, 65W Power Consumption by Justin Gerrero

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Stable 5.1GHz for a year

My 8700k ran less than 20 days a full year ago at 5.1GHz, vCore 1.38v. Paired with a Strix z370e board, 16GB 3000 MHz DDR4, Strix 1080 by December I bought Strix 2080. I use a Samsung Evo SSD for my OS, everything else on WD Black drives (including games). At max settings 1440p 16:9 I consistently get over 100fps and tempos with h100iv2 and Arctic Silver 5 (Legacy Paste) never get past the mid 60s when gaming and the highest I've ever seen when launching Cinebench, 3DMark or even Aida64 have seen are 84c . The chip is not lost. The chip is really good at gaming and even multitasking, my only oddity is that my system doesn't like harder time in RAM. I chose to disable XMP and manually overclock the RAM, but if I tighten the timings from 16-16-16-38 to 15-15-15-36 and the DRAM voltage to 1.4V, it boots system not. Enable XMP and re-overclock (booted system into bios in safe mode, reset and cleared my overclock profiles) and everything works fine again. Very happy with my 8700k chip and glad I built my rig before the 9th gen launch fiasco.

Pros
  • Processors CPUs
Cons
  • Big and bulky
