My tap water stinks. I buy reverse osmosis water and remineralize it to PH 7 with ideal GH and KH around 6-8 degrees. I first tried Equilibrium products and it was a big struggle. Equilibrium, plus acidic and alkaline buffers that would not dissolve for several days. Measure it on the first day, you will get the PH value you calculated, but it still contains a lot of white particles. Stir it, let it sit, measure it over the following days and watch the PH in the bucket keep rising to over 8. Measure it in your tank and see a PH of 8+. Equilibrium might work with a constant supply of CO2, but not for my low-tech tank. (I have 4 with different substrates of sand, gravel and caribbean flora - max same problem on all) Saltyshrimp is amazing. Calculate, add (I need 2 measurements in the internal line to 5G), resolves immediately, the parameters are in the bucket AND in the tank as indicated. This has made my weekly water changes a lot less stressful and my water conditions a lot more consistent. I'm not sure why it's not more widely used, but I guess not many people want to fight RO when they don't have to.
