extremely versatile and easy to use

I tried a few cameras to upgrade my 2003 Fuji and actually bought them - and sent them back! - the new Fuji in front of it. This Pentax K200D camera is great for many things. The settings are easy to use and they are very, very good as they aim and shoot on the "automatic" setting. The images are very good in color and detail. I'm by no means a pro - I'm still relearning what a lot of these settings mean. The camera doesn't overwhelm you with a million things, but it does give you choices. OR there are plenty of basic scene modes that seem to work decently if you don't want to try and adjust white balance etc yourself. For an amateur like me who has to strain my brain to remember what it is, this is a great way to capture it without overloading yourself with a professional camera. And there were times when I didn't have time to try these things, so I just set it to Auto and let it take care of itself when I go from bright sunlight to a darker room etc. Megabytes mean there's a lot of information in each image - using Photoshop to crop or edit an image results in stunning shots when I need them. Recently I had to shoot under a large picnic pavilion, with no flash but outside in bright sunshine. The camera worked well and Photoshop had no trouble getting the desired detail in the interior shots by compensating for the very bright background. Not every camera has images with enough detail to make a good shot out of those details. The same thing happened at the school camp - good shots in difficult conditions. The only problematic shots I've had are NOT the camera's fault - people move unless I put them in sport mode. Switching to sport mode really helps when there's something moving towards you. I'm happy with the shutter lag - it's pretty quick - and the quality of the camera. I'm particularly happy that my 20 year old Pentax lens works with it. That's why I ended up buying the camera - the ability to use old lenses from my old Pentax film camera and even an extra flash (also ancient). Pentax made it so you can use them and even made an adapter for really old lenses. This simplifies the switch to other lenses enormously, since there are many old lenses. And I feel better when I'm not just throwing away perfect stuff.
