Closest repeater is 9.55 miles away. When I first got my Radioddity GM-30 with a short rubber ducky antenna, I was able to connect to this repeater (the repeater responded in Morse code after I released the button, although no one answered my call). I finally managed to pass the radio check, but was told that very little of what I said was understood. However, I could hear the transmission from the repeater over 20 miles away. After installing the RD-332, my reception didn't seem to improve. I switched back and forth several times while networking on a remote repeater and couldn't tell any difference in reception. But (more importantly) the transmission has improved significantly. I was able to make a call to a repeater 9.5 miles away and was told the reception was loud and clear. So this antenna is a very inexpensive but worthwhile upgrade.
