I bought a zipper repair tool for our tent door. We have a very popular 10 person tent that would cost over $100 to replace at the lowest price I could find. In years of searching I have never found a tent that can be set up like this with parts that can be used even if the cords inside snap. In desperation, I searched the internet on how to replace a zipper in a tent and came across FixnZip. I got one from my local Joann Fabrics but they only had one in stock and we have two doors, both with worn zippers. Fortunately, Revane came at the same price as Joanna's voucher. ; ) I watched the YouTube video posted by FixnZip on their YouTube channel that explains how to replace the zipper. I did this while the tent was still down which made it easier. It definitely wasn't as easy for me as the guy in the video - it would have been easier with an assistant. But I worked patiently and finally got it. After setting up the tent and confirming that FixnZip actually works, I decided that in general it would be better if I could remove the old zip. I couldn't figure out how to do this without breaking a few stitches at the beginning of the zipper. I just removed a few stitches removed the old zipper and then hand stitched the seam. I did all of this while the tent was being set up, which made things a bit more difficult, but it worked. I could have left the old zip on the tent and FixnZip would still work, but I just felt it would last longer without the old zip. Therefore, if you want to avoid seam rippers and hand stitches, don't feel like you have to do it just because I did. It was more difficult to put the FixnZip back on once the tent was pitched. I have thumb tendinitis, so I realized I wasn't tightening the thumbscrew enough. I grabbed a small pair of pliers to help me tighten it - not too tight! - and then it worked great. I'm sure I wouldn't have used forceps if I hadn't been weakened by tendonitis. I am very excited about this product and look forward to our first hike in 2 years when our zips are working again. but I just felt like it would last longer without the old boost.
