One thing I've found is that I need to use an object on the table to lean on ( my normal desktop high table height ). It takes a bit of muscle power to land a clean punch, so I think if you can't put enough downward pressure on the punch's handle, it won't be a clean punch. The white paper in the photo is 110lb cardstock; The parts that got mangled were when I tried to use it on my "tall" desk; Good clean cuts were easy and with good results (shown at right) when I used it on the lower table. The colorful paper in the photo is regular cut paper (the kind you buy in 12" x 12" sheets in a large notebook, so I'm not sure about the weight of this paper). I tried it on a very light cardboard (salt cracker box) and it didn't work for me; I'm a little disappointed with this as I love recycling cardboard but other than that I'm very happy with this tool.
