I'm really impressed with this chess set, especially for the price. It's much nicer than I expected. As shown in the picture, despite the felt pads on the bottom, the magnetic chess pieces stay firmly on the board, which is really impressive. The felt pads ensure that the chess pieces glide smoothly across the board, so you don't have to worry about damaging the board. Checkers are fine, but they're not magnetic, meaning the game isn't as travel-friendly if you've tried playing in the back seat of a car or on a plane. The board is really roomy and durable. I like the locking mechanism when it closes. You can certainly hear it close. Also great for storing chess pieces and checkers on the inside of a folded board. I have to admit I was happy to find a little guide in it that reminded me of the different chess pieces and how they can move. I bet you're hard pressed to find a better chess and checkers set for the price, especially one that's built for travel and has magnetic chess pieces. So pretty. Easy 5 stars.
