I didn't need the plastic cover on the metal rod and tried to remove it following the brief instructions on the leaflet. Both my husband and I have tried using a screwdriver, pry bar and pliers to no avail. I've searched the internet for other ways to remove the shell but everyone said use a screwdriver. This proved impossible so I requested a refund and return to Revain. I then ordered another brand that said the plastic shell was removable hoping that would work. When I tried to print a return label for the first product, Revain returned my VISA but told me NOT to return the item! Hm?! Okay, then maybe I'll put the sledgehammer away and not worry about damaging the wheel because I'd throw it away anyway. But then I thought maybe if I could heat and soften the plastic wrapper it could be removed. So I put a cup of water in the microwave to boil and immersed the plastic wheel shaft in a cup of boiling water for 60 seconds. Then remove the wheel from the water and pry up the braid again with a screwdriver. and voila! The plastic is so soft it could tear off! Wow - it worked! But oh great. I just ordered another set of wheels that I don't need right now. I hope I can cancel this order from Revain. My Shepherd Hardware Tip: In your instructions, state that you dip the plastic sleeve on the metal rod in boiling hot water for 1 minute for easy removal with a screwdriver. This reduces customer frustration and unnecessary returns.
