Deep and hoarse sound

I bought these for my 2013 Softail Slim (103 engine). Now let's talk! This is what a Harley should sound like. I wanted to change the terrible sound my bike makes and this helped. They have a very deep and guttural sound. The difference between them and the sound of my standard whistles is night and day. They just have a nice little rumble when moving smoothly. However, when you step on the gas, these dogs actually start barking! Love her! As for the installation, it was easy. I would recommend spraying some wd40 on the muffler fittings you are removing to make removal easier. Also, I recommend removing the heat shields completely so you can start the bike and check for leaks around the muffler ports. If you have leaks, you will get a lot of pops when slowing down. I had leaks and even tightened the muffler clamps to 60 feet (20 more than my manual recommends), but they were still leaking. I have to say I reused my stock fork which only had 1000 miles on it and thought they still had a lot of life in them. :-/ V&H recommended new clamps. Anyway to stop the leaks I took some high temp silicone and wrapped the bead around the inside of the bead before placing it on the collector tube and it worked like a charm. I don't have any leaks but there is still a slight pull when decelerating at higher rpm. As for the big discussion about whether you also need a tuner and an air filter. In my humble opinion no, but I ordered a vo2 bare air filter and fuel pack to completely get rid of the harsh popping sound. It's not that much, and at first I didn't care, but it was starting to get on my nerves. Finally. Great whistles, great sound. I'm very happy with the quality, great looks, great sound and I'm smiling broadly every time I step on the gas. UPDATE: My opinion has changed. After putting on Fuelpak and VO2 Air in addition to the slip-ons. It's amazing what I've missed. The bike rides like a champ, rides MUCH cooler, brakes ZERO, jerks ZERO between gears, wobbles ZERO in certain gears and the throttle is like a new toy. I guess I was too excited that there was finally a sound to realize my bike wasn't performing like it should. Do yourself a favor and buy VO2 Air and Fuelpak as a compliment to those bad boys. I'm glad I did!
