I did a little research on the vise and decided it was the best bang for my buck. I was mainly looking for something for my garage but had gone through two cheap cast vises and really wanted a well made forged vise. Wilton was my first thought, but I think the only line of trade there is still forged steel and made in America (also slightly out of my price range). My research finally led me to a rid guide. This is a solid piece of German steel with a tensile strength of 75,000 psi! Haven't really tested it yet, but there's no doubt it will hold up. The only thing that confuses me is the high speed mechanism. This is a great feature (allows you to quickly move the shutter without turning the knob), but the more moving parts, the more things can break. Overall, this was the best tool for under $300 I've bought in a long time.
