This works very well, although sometimes I feel like the temperature fluctuates too much even in such a small tank. He can go from 74 to 78 in two hours without adjustment. But that is due to the territory of the smaller reservoir, so I can give it four stars. I have a different brand heater in another tank that we have. It looks a lot more "rugged" than this aquatop, but costs a little more. If you are looking to heat something much larger than 20 gallons I would recommend the EHEIM Jager Aquarium Thermostat Heater 150W.
