Review on Wireless Controller 2.4G for Sony Playstation 2 PS2 (Pink+Green) - Ultimate Gaming Convenience! by Jerry Crist

Great for some, terrible for others, YOU DECIDE!

These are fine for people with a passing interest in reliving the glory days of retro, but for avid gamers there are a few aspects that will absolutely piss you off. . And by you I mean myself, I mean I was seriously upset. And maybe you too. First, let's be clear that controllers work well. I'm not a "controller snob" so I'm usually okay with third-party devices unless they're super awful. The buttons feel great and the controls are nice and responsive. My typical complaint about such third party devices is that the joysticks don't work. I like the feel of them. In every way I think the controls and ergonomics are great. They feel a little light and therefore a little cheap (what do you want? They're actually cheap). One of the reasons for this is that the screening is carried out by a very small motor in just one movement. It's not HD rumble, so there's a subtlety to the vibration. It's also kind of cheap plastic, but that doesn't mean they won't outlive you. They use AAA batteries, so aren't some sort of internal rechargeable device. The lack of charging circuitry means it's cheaper to manufacture and buy. You got hours of playtime from batteries that are not included. That means you'll need batteries for them (which you should take out when you're not playing), but it also means you won't have a hard time finding replacements, so pros and cons. Get some Eneloop AAA batteries if you want to "go green," so to speak. I just used cheap Harbor Freight batteries that worked great. Now for the annoying stuff. First, the controllers simply randomly select a receiver to pair with. And depending on where your PS2 is, you might not know you're connected to the wrong one until you've logged into the game and your controller isn't working. For example, you have an orange receiver in the first slot and a blue one in the second, and you turn on your PS2, sit down, and pick up the orange controller, thinking it's player 1, right? But exactly half the time it connects to another receiver. And if your system is behind a TV, for example, or elsewhere, you won't be able to see the displays on the ends of the receivers. The solution is simple: just keep unplugging controllers until they're paired with the right ones, or sacrifice your favorite color game and swap controllers with your wife. It's not a complete deal breaker, but I'd be lying if I said it didn't annoy me more than once. At worst, you'll quickly wear out your power switches (cheap, maybe fragile things) trying to connect to the right receiver. At best, you'll get that itchy, uncomfortable reminder every time you have to reach for a different controller after loading GTA. The last annoying factor, and that's the stupid one. Your controllers will time out after a few minutes of inactivity. But that's not all. If you're unfortunate enough to turn off the controller while eating a few slices of pizza, not only will you have to "cycle it off and on" when you come back, you'll have to turn it off indefinitely. Maybe a few minutes, maybe long enough to eat the rest of the pizza. Then you turn it back on and maybe it will light up, or maybe you'll end the evening and come back tomorrow. This was a deal breaker for me as I'm not just a random player. So generally, if you want to play your game for a bit, shut down your system and set it aside for another week or month. or a year, they'll knock you out of the park completely. They are great when you actually play. But if you're more than an avid gamer or a die-hard retro enthusiast, you'll fret about these things simply because of the pair mismatch and timeout issue. This will kill her for you. So either you love them or you hate them.
