Many electronic components contain magnet wire, which at 30 ga.a is sometimes difficult to work with. If your project calls for a small magnet wire, there's no reason to go with 30 ga. 28 ga is much easier to use and just as flexible for practical purposes. The insulation stays at 28 ga at 200 degrees C so I wouldn't try to burn it before use. It is better, faster and more efficient to use a metal file and remove it. Using a sharp knife is not enough and will gouge the wire.
