I've bought several humidifiers looking for the 'perfect' one and this guy has always been disappointing. Other humidifiers didn't clean (and spoiled quickly), didn't produce enough humidity, were difficult to refill, were noisy, or otherwise didn't work. This model is so great I'm buying a second one (my footage and dry air necessitate it for every humidifier I've used). However, there's one thing this humidifier can't do, and that's turning it on and off based on relative humidity. Luckily, thanks to the controller's design, you can add one if you want. Because this humidifier is always on after you turn it on (at least until it runs out of water), you can control it with a smart outlet. I wanted my humidifier to integrate with my other Apple Homekit products, so I bought an iHome Smart Plug and an Elgato Eve Temperature/Humidity/Air Quality Sensor. A little automation work to set my areas in the iHome app and turn my humidifier on and off automatically or when I ask Siri. For a simpler and cheaper solution, you can also purchase a "humidity controller," which is an outlet or power strip with a built-in humidity sensor and adjustable range. No smart home integration but works great. My only advice is that using deionized water really helps keep the mineral dust in there. But who wants to buy a few gallons of deionized water every week? Luckily, "deionized" just means very thorough filtration, and the ZeroWater filter jug makes refilling this humidifier pretty easy. Don't bother with other water filters as the vast majority of them (including famous ones like Brita) don't produce deionized water and only remove some of the minerals that will evaporate. Since I switched to deionized water, I no longer have dust problems.
