Hubby had to fill it up for me. Until I got the hemostat. now the needle is broken

I have poor eyesight, so my husband has to constantly thread the needle. I thought this would help. .did it right away and pulled it out quickly. Finally, he pulled out his trusty styptic clamp and held the end of the thread with the styptic and the loose one in his left hand. I can easily fill it without looking. * except my thread keeps breaking Well, I was so glad I actually had something ready and only had to thread it 4 times. Then when I'm almost done. the needle broke. Now I'm wondering if the needle was defective
