Review on Detector Household Waterproof Sensitivity Basements by Runbi Alvarez

Revainrating 2 out of 5

REVISED CHANGE: No longer "Best of its kind I've ever used ".

REVISED: The seller is now selling a different device (small white device with a 12v battery) instead of the device I was originally considering, a larger gray cylinder with a red light and 9- V-Battery original review (below) which I've kept for reference. This new smaller detector uses a 12 volt battery which is less common and more expensive than the old fashioned 9 volt radio battery. This device is not particularly loud. To make matters worse, it emits a single tone that's easy to miss, unlike a smoke alarm that can't be ignored. I bought two of these and had to send one back for a replacement as it was DOA. There are much better options than this water leak detector. The original reviewed device described below is available from the following Revain retailers: Vendor #1 Vendor #2 — — — — — — — — — [Original Review Below] — — — — - - - - - Cut Here - - - -By Purpose This device is almost ideal 1) Runs on a standard 9V battery 2) The alarm is *loud* like a smoke alarm but a clear tone so you know straight away what you're complaining about. 3) Sensitive - your skin's normal moisture is enough to cause this. 4) Totally waterproof, well constructed and good size; not too big, not too small for a comfortable fit. The reason it doesn't get a full 5 stars is because the fish finder is attached to a screw cap. When opening and closing the device, care must be taken not to damage the wires connecting the horn to the circuit board. And be very careful when handling the device - the alarm is very loud! Claimed 120 dB and I believe it. A thunderclap from a nearby storm is 120dB or a shot (140-190dB depending on weapon) can cause instant hearing damage. Remember I mentioned that skin contact is enough to set off an alarm? Inserting batteries or handling in general will allow you to start it without any problems. I strongly recommend the use of some form of hearing protection when operating this device.
