Review on πŸ‘  Over the Door Shoe Shelves by Whitmor by Amanda Head

Revainrating 3 out of 5

The upper part could have been better designed. Not suitable for thin doors.

No complaints about the shoe compartment. Well made enough as long as it isn't handled and should last a few years but the part that hangs over the door and its design requires a lot of work. It consists of three separate metal brackets that you theoretically hang on the door individually, then put the long end through three separate eyelets at the top of the shoe bag with compartments, done. Except. That doesn't work at all. You MUST have two people working together to try to line up the clips with the tabs and then thread them through the tabs almost simultaneously so the whole mess doesn't fall off. But it's all for naught unless your door is REALLY THICK to ensure a really tight fit over the door mounts. Each bracket has a welded piece of metal that should help provide a tight fit for narrow doors at the expense of being able to bend it to accommodate narrower doors, except it doesn't really do anything in a minute. Weight whatever is placed on the shoe bag side of the door. The brackets simply tip up, making it impossible to close the door or the entire structure falling down completely. I have an old house and the bedroom doors are only 1 1/8 inches thick. These brackets are designed to fit doors 1 5/8" to 2" thick. The only solution we could think of was to dig through the wood in the basement for a piece of the right thickness, cut it to a length that would fit three separate brackets, and stuff them under the brackets to give them something give. hold tight. It looks crappy from the hallway door, but at least the shoe racks can do what we bought them for. The manufacturer should consider the following: 1. Combining these three separate brackets into one unit, i.e. attached to each other with a flat metal bar 2. Brackets are offered for thinner doors because the way brackets are currently being designed to overcome this problem solve, failed miserably.

Pros
