I upgraded my iMac's RAM to 40GB from the 8GB I originally bought. Buying additional RAM from somewhere other than Apple will save you tons of money. I did research that Crucial is one of the best brands and is Mac compatible I had the usual issues as mentioned in other reviews I originally replaced the original RAM (2x4GB) with this Crucial kit (2x16GB) and then the put the original RAM in the remaining open slots - NOT WORKING, I have a black screen for more than 2 minutes. Then I rearranged the cards in other positions and it didn't work again. Finally I put the original RAM in the original slots and inserted the NEW Crucial RAM into the remaining slots (slots 1 and 3) Approximately 20 seconds After setting up the iMac, the Apple logo appeared. I don't know why iMacs are very memory hungry, but they are, and from the looks of it, most people have trouble installing it initially. . But after moving around a bit and making sure they are properly seated in their slots, it will work. Just be patient and don't worry if the iMac doesn't start after the first two attempts. However, I am happy with the product and the 40GB expansion is overkill for me, but this machine makes a good '10 year old' computer and I can always upgrade it to the full 64GB if needed . Final Conclusion - Great product - Place the new RAM in the open slots (1 & 3) - give the computer 30 seconds black screen and it will boot otherwise check everything is filled and seated correctly I assume that even the smallest offset will reset the entire system. out.
