I was in a hurry to find and buy a rib brace after breaking a floating rib in a car accident last December. My chiropractor recommended putting on a rib brace. It was agony until I got it. I couldn't feel comfortable in front of the corset and couldn't even stand up straight without pain. Without them I would not be able to function. For the first 2 months I wore it 24 hours a day, 7 days a week except for the shower. I even had to wear it very loosely while sleeping for the first two months. It supported my broken rib and helped ease my pain a bit. Since then I've been wearing the corset for about 1/2 a day when needed while I'm still recovering. I wore it over my clothes at first as I had to wear it much tighter and often had to adjust when changing positions or eating to ensure I could breathe comfortably. After about a month and a half I started wearing it under my shirt as I can wear it a little looser. A little over 4 months later, the velcro still works great. I was and still am very satisfied with this bandage. Fully recommend this orthosis if you have a broken rib or are buying for other reasons. I'm sure it will still help in your situation.
